- Teaching Certificate – City & Guilds PTLLS (Level 3).
- Advanced Certificate in Guitar from the Academy of Contemporary Music school (A.C.M).
- Grade 8 Guitar (Rockschool Trinity).
- Over 7 years of teaching experience including college classes, adult education, one on one lessons and group workshops.
Marcus is a member of professional organisations including the Musicians Union and the Registry of Guitar Tutors. These groups provide training and professional development to musicians and music teachers so that they can continue to improve and provide a high-quality service.
Rockschool and RGT
Marcus recommends syllabus from Rockschool and RGT. He teaches from introductory level right up to grade 8 on guitar, and beginner to intermediate levels (grade 4/5) on Bass. The challenge of working through the grade books and gaining the certificates is rewarding in itself. Exam grades are especially useful for students studying for GCSE’s, A-Levels and similar qualifications and can count towards UCAS points for those looking at courses in higher education.
Players that get overly nervous in exam settings will enjoy the new “Performance Award Certificates” from RGT. They are an excellent way to chart your progress on the guitar.
You can now have your playing professionally assessed and receive independent feedback from an experienced examiner without actually having to attend an exam (please note that these certificates do not carry any qualifications like exam grades, but are still an excellent way to mark your achievement on your instrument).

Marcus’ experience in the studio and in live performances can help you plan for whatever goals you have for yourself. Whether you want to one day play in a band and get some gigs at small pubs, or you want to one day perform at weddings or larger festivals, Marcus can help you work your way to achieving it.
Marcus has performed in local Southampton venues such as The Talking Heads, The Firehouse, The Hobbit, The Swan, and many venues outside of Southampton.

LinkedIn testimonials:
“Marcus planned his lessons around my ability and what I wanted to learn. I’ve been playing the guitar for many years without tuition and wanted to learn more about the blues and begin the journey of understanding more about music theory. I’m still playing with the interesting insights and ideas that Marcus taught me. I found his tuition to be very valuable and good fun. Jolly nice chap too.”

“Marcus has great experience and knowledge in not only teaching the guitar but also playing in bands and writing his own music. He personally took me from being a beginner to an intermediate player and expanded my knowledge of the fret board, techniques and music theory. With Marcus’s help I am now able to read TAB and also learn songs from DVD’s applying his techniques that he had taught me. Marcus will teach you to your individual needs or to a set curriculum and is extremely patient throughout the process.”
